The standard downpipe can be manufactured from three types of material: carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminum alloy. If the standard downpipe is made of carbon steel, the standpipe assembly must also include a telescopic downpipe (stainless steel or aluminum alloy) to prevent spark formation. The aluminum downpipe is connected to the steel standpipe by means of a flanged connection. The lower part of the downpipe may end with a beveled cut or a cap.
If the downpipe is fitted with a cap, the liquid flows out through side openings, which helps avoid the reactive force of the jet and prevents the standpipe from being pushed out of the tank at the beginning of loading. The standard downpipe length is 1800 mm. Depending on the depth of the tank car, the standard downpipe length can be modified at the customer’s request.
