Lower drain riser OSN-SNC made of stainless steel

  • The lower drain riser OSN-SNC made of stainless steel (Fig. 1) is designed for draining petroleum products, aggressive and food liquids from railway tank cars through the lower drain nozzle of the tank. The design of OSN-SNC utilizes full-bore hinged pipeline connections (PST) made of stainless steel, which are approved by Rostekhnadzor for use in explosive zones, certificate No. RRС 00-32345. The hinged joints of the PST ensure high load capacity and an extended service life, allowing the use of OSN-SNC risers for a wide range of products and in the most demanding operating conditions.

Service life of OSN-SNC

  • The average full service life of OSN-SNC is at least 10 years. OSN-SNC can ensure no less than 9000 operating cycles without loss of tightness (an operating cycle is considered a rotation from the initial position to the working position and back). The electrical resistance is no more than 10 ohms. The lower drain riser OSN-SNC complies with the technical specifications TU3689-018-45416838-2008.

Design of the riser

  • OSN-SNC is a movable connection consisting of three nozzles № 1, 2, 3 and a connecting neck with special grips (Fig. 2). The mobility of the riser is ensured by hinged joints PST № 1, 2, 3. Using the hinged joints PST № 1, 2, 3 and nozzles № 2, 3, the neck of the riser is installed relative to the drain nozzle of the tank car. The connecting neck and hinged joint PST № 4 are used to ensure a tight connection with the tank and to compensate for any misalignment of the tank’s drain nozzle. OSN-SNC risers are equipped with a spring compensator, which is made in a durable and hermetically sealed housing.

  • Thanks to its movable design, OSN-SNC can be compactly placed along the ramp, without obstructing the movement of the train. The riser can be operated in both the right and left parking positions (Fig. 3).

Modifications

At the request of consumers, the lower drain riser OSN-SNC can be produced in various modifications, which are classified according to several criteria:

ItemDescriptionValue
1By nominal pipe diameter Dу, mm175
150
2By materialCarbon steel (PST hinges made of stainless steel)
Stainless steel
3By type of drained productsCrude oil
Hydrocarbon compounds (gasoline, kerosene, fuel oil, etc.)

Food liquids
4By type of drainageNo heating

  • The lower drain riser OSN-SNC with hydrorecirculating heating allows heating the product inside the tank car, reducing its viscosity, by supplying a heating product similar to the drained product through the internal pipeline of the riser.

To ensure the fastest heating and draining of the product from the railway tank car, it is necessary to use the OSN-SNC riser together with the OSN-URM heating device for heavy fuel oil (see separate brochure). The OSN-URM device is made in the form of a cylindrical heat exchanger and is installed on the upper neck of the tank car. The OSN-URM can also be made of stainless steel.

Since railway tank cars of various types can be present in a train, the distance between the drain nozzles of adjacent tank cars relative to the discharge point may vary significantly. The OSN-SNC riser (Fig. 7) with a service working area of 4 m accounts for most tank car types, while the riser with a service working area of 6 m accommodates all existing tank car types.

The service working area of the riser depends on the distance between the axis of the root flange and the axis of the tank car, L. The most optimal distance L is 2200…2400 mm.
