Purpose

  • The Gerda-DLC remote control system for airfield lighting equipment is designed for monitoring and control of airfield lighting systems (ALS) from automated workstations (terminals) of aircraft landing and taxiing controllers, as well as backup terminals of the operation and maintenance service (ESTOP).

    Gerda-DLC is used at aerodromes within OMI and OVI systems.

    It complies with the requirements of FAP-381, AP-170, FAA AC 150/5345-46, Annex 14 Volume I “Aerodromes” to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, and Doc 9157 “Aerodrome Design Manual”.

  • Gerda-DLC is a hardware and software system that provides remote control and monitoring of the airfield lighting system (ALS), including:

    • Brightness regulators (Gerda-RY);
    • Power distribution panels (Gerda-RGP);
    • Diesel generator units (DGU);
    • Communication lines;
    • Power supply units of transformer substations and other devices (if necessary and if remote monitoring and control functionality is available in the corresponding devices).

Description and Properties

  • The Gerda-DLC system is implemented as a set consisting of a server, various externally mounted communication modules (CMs) for specific purposes, and terminals composed of separate devices: a controller, monitor, mouse, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

    The number and type of CMs in the system depend on its configuration and the number of control and monitoring objects.

    The Russian-manufactured server is the central unit of the system and is typically located in the control tower (ATC tower).

    If the server is located at a transformer substation (TS), it integrates a communication module (CMS). Terminals located nearby (within a 100 m range) are connected to the CMS and/or CM.

    The communication module (CM) at the TS enables data exchange between brightness regulators, Gerda-RGP panels, and the server when it is located in the ATC tower. The CM is installed at the TS in close proximity to the field equipment.

    Data exchange between CMs and/or CMS is carried out via an external network. The external network is organized in a ring topology.

    This network topology allows the use of one or two communication channels, with automatic redundancy provided.

    Digital data transmission systems enable communication with equipment equipped with compatible hardware and coordinated software. Communication cables for the field network are included in the system package.
