  • The Block Transit is formed using flexible blocks. These blocks, like bricks, are used to fill cable passage openings through walls or floors. The joints and gaps between cables are sealed with GERDA-PB-G-UF-FR fire-resistant sealant. Standard blocks may have rectangular or circular cross-sections. The rectangular block also includes a standard RF brick size used in Russia: 250×120×65 mm. Upon customer request, a Custom Block of any shape and size can be manufactured, with holes and hole plugs as required.

GERDA-PB-FR and GERDA-PM-FR transits are:

  • seismic-resistant, compliant with the requirements of STO 36554501-016-2009 “Construction in Seismic Areas. Building Design Standards” and GOST 17516.1-90. The design of the penetrations allows their use in buildings and structures located in seismically hazardous areas with a design seismicity level of up to 9 points
  • radiation-resistant and decontaminable (according to GOST R 51102-97)
  • moisture-resistant; the GERDA-PB-FR block-type penetration must be used with GERDA-PB-G-UF-FR firestop sealant
  • resistant to solar (UV) radiation; the GERDA-PB-FR block-type penetration must be used with GERDA-PB-G-UF-FR firestop sealant
  • resistant to low temperatures; operational within ambient temperature range from –70°C to +70°C
  • service life of the GERDA-PB-FR fire-resistant penetration – at least 15 years, GERDA-PM-FR – at least 50 years

Fire resistance tests

  • To confirm the fire resistance rating of the penetrations, tests were conducted at an accredited testing center in accordance with GOST R 53310-2009. The image below shows a fire-resistant penetration with installed cables — from the outside (a) and the inside (b) of the fire chamber of the test furnace. Note that inside the fire chamber (b), the penetration expanded in size, resulting in increased thermal insulation and the formation of a reliable barrier against the penetration of flame and combustion products.

Installation of the GERDA-PB-FR block-type penetration

  • The penetration is assembled from tightly packed GERDA-PB-FR blocks. To ensure maximum fire resistance, the blocks must be installed in the opening as follows:

    • rectangular blocks – lengthwise, along the cable direction (for IET60, the sealing depth must be at least 200 mm);
    • round blocks – one block on each side of the opening.

    Joints and gaps must be sealed using GERDA-PB-G-UF-FR firestop sealant. When used in very humid environments or outdoors under exposure to solar (UV) radiation, it is mandatory to coat the outer surface of the blocks with GERDA-PB-G-UF-FR firestop sealant at a temperature not lower than +5°C.

    An additional cable can be routed through a previously installed block-type penetration by making a hole in the block corresponding to the cable diameter.

Custom block-type penetration seal

  • If you require a non-standard (custom) penetration seal, please send us a drawing of the opening in the wall or floor slab through which the cables pass, along with the layout and diameters of the cables. We will design the seal ourselves and assign it a unique order code. This code can always be used to reorder the seal—no need to resubmit drawings, as they will be stored in our database. The custom seal will be delivered complete with blanking plugs for the openings. If additional cable installation is required, simply remove the plug and pull the cable through the freed opening.
