Purpose

  • Gerda PAPI glide path lights provide visual guidance for monitoring the aircraft’s position relative to the established glide slope.

  • The following configuration options are available within the glide path lighting system: APAPI, PAPI on the left side of the runway, and PAPI on both sides of the runway.


Description and properties

    • The main photometric components of the light are the light source, a red filter, and an optical system consisting of two pairs of sequentially mounted lenses. The light source consists of two halogen lamps. The light beam from the lamps is focused by a reflector, passes through the filter, and then through the optical system. The light emits a two-color beam (white on top and red on bottom) with a sharp color transition.
    • The light components are mounted on a base and housed within an enclosure that is sealed with a cover, providing convenient and quick access to the optical system components as well as to the halogen lamps. A cable entry and a filter are located in the lower part of the base.
    • For quick access, latches are located on the rear side of the housing. When opened, the cover blocks the light beam, which provides additional convenience during light adjustment in flight inspections.
    • The lights are powered via a cable loop through 200 W isolation transformers.
