Purpose

GERDA-AGS LED airfield signs using LED technology are employed as mandatory instruction signs (GERDA-AGS R), as well as directional airfield signs (GERDA-AGS Y).
They comply with the requirements of FAP-381, AP-170, FAA AC 150/5345-46, Annex 14 Volume I “Aerodromes” to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, and Doc 9157 “Aerodrome Design Manual.”

Description and properties

- Durable LED technology is used with a projected service life of over 50,000 hours.
- Highly efficient LED modules combined with a light-diffusing matrix provide uniform illumination across the entire sign surface, eliminating bright spots and shadows.
- Energy-efficient LED technology with series-connected LEDs helps reduce power consumption.
- Operates from existing cable lines and isolating transformers.
- Improved performance at lower operating temperatures and almost instantaneous start-up compared to fluorescent lamps.
- The sign design ensures uniform backlighting is maintained even if one LED segment fails.
- Easy installation and maintenance due to lightweight and slim design.
- External power switch (optional) for disconnecting the sign from the power circuit during maintenance.

Construction

- The sign structure consists of an aluminum profile housing, providing enhanced rigidity and corrosion resistance.
- During maintenance, only the covers are opened to provide access to the LED elements.
- The front panel can be replaced on-site without removing the sign.
- Aluminum posts ensure high strength and resistance to wind loads.
- Mounting is done using a base plate and a shear coupling to a concrete foundation (including existing ones).
- Adjustable sign posts allow installation on existing foundations.
- Connecting a sign of any size requires only one isolating transformer of the appropriate power rating.
