Atmospheric air hydrocarbon gas concentration sensor

  • Purpose

    The DZU-GERDA sensor is designed to measure the level of gas contamination in indoor and outdoor environments in areas where hydrocarbon gases and vapors may be present near process equipment, storage tanks, loading racks, trunk pipeline pumping stations, compressor stations, gas storage facilities, boiler houses, and other industrial sites.

    Sensor Description

    The operating principle of the sensor is optical-absorption, based on a dual-channel infrared photometer scheme. The sensor is manufactured in an explosion-proof version with a housing made of corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy. The sensor housing includes a cable gland and a sensor module (see photo). Atmospheric air enters the sensor’s measuring cuvette through free diffusion. A protective filter prevents dust, dirt, and precipitation from entering the measuring cuvette. The current gas concentration level is displayed on a digital indicator in the sensor housing window, while threshold exceedances are indicated by LEDs.

    The sensor performs the following functions:

    • Executes startup self-diagnosis upon power-on and periodic self-diagnosis during operation; in the event of a fault, displays the corresponding error code;
    • Measures gas contamination levels in real time;
    • Performs reliability checks of measurement results;
    • Provides a convenient maintenance mode (zero and sensitivity adjustment, threshold level configuration, etc.) using a magnetic key without dismounting the sensor, directly in the hazardous area;
    • Stores calibration data and threshold gas concentration levels in the sensor’s non-volatile memory;
    • Transmits measurement results, fault messages, and gas threshold exceedances to the upper-level system via digital or analog interface (as selected);
    • Allows connection of automation and signaling actuators directly to the sensor (in versions with relay outputs).
